Om Elephant Temple 2 Triptych
2015

The title of this , my largest painting to date, is a translation of the Hindi script on the elephant and warrior in the centre canvas. This image comes from a graphito on an exterior wall of a small Hindu temple. ( it represents a cult). Above is a mandala maize/swastika, my own invention, based on various references. On the upper left is Lord Ganesha and on the far lower right is Hanuman the monkey warrior and god. The painted surfaces come from textured walls ,torn posters and worn mural decoration which I recorded on our trip to Rajastahan. Its a layering process with each addition carefully in balance...the whole work, a metaphor for our journey.
