ANTIQUE FRAGMENT 2
1998

A previous still life combined the plaster fragment of an antique cast with Auchmithie stones. The first painting exercise I did at art school was a series of tonal studies of the features of Michelangelo's David, the eye, nose, ear and mouth (referred to by the students as "ear nose and throat"). I loved painting from the Antique. We were encouraged to introduce a little raw umber with ivory black and titanium white.
